Members of the Adult and Aging Network,
Thanks to your advocacy, the Board of Supervisors approved several key allocations during County Budget Hearings last week that strengthen services for local seniors, including our most vulnerable:
1) $148,000 for a new Public Health Nurse position, for geriatric in home assessments
2) $69,000 total for local senior meal program providers
Additionally, the County has authorized the following allocations to improve dial-a-ride services between the Santa Ynez Valley (SYV) and regional medical centers, including for seniors and the disabled traveling to medical appointments:
1) $70,000 annually to SYV Transit to provide increased levels of service to unincorporated SYV
2) $10,000 annually to City of Lompoc to incorporate SYV into COLT SB Shuttle services
3) $60,000 one-time funding to SMOOTH to hire a consultant to study the transit needs in the SYV
4) $50,000 annually to SMOOTH to increase its level of service in the North County
Thank you for your role in helping to achieve improvements for senior services in three key areas of nutrition, transportation and in-home medical care and assessments. We look forward to additional updates and dialogue at the next AAN meeting.
