2018 Fraud Book

I wanted to share the 2018 Fraud Book released by the Special Committee on Aging, which identifies the top 10 scams that targeted seniors in 2017. It also includes a summary of measures that have been put in place to mitigate these types of scams and a robust list of resources to assist with fraud cases. https://www.collins.senate.gov/sites/default/files/2018%20Fraud%20Book.pdf

 

California also sees fraud cases around Medicare. CMS is issuing new Medicare cards to all Medicare recipients over the next year starting in April 2018. This change provides an opportunity for new scams. The California Senior Medicare Patrol has developed consumer-facing resources to help ensure that Medicare beneficiaries understand what is happening and are alerted to the risk for fraud.
