Friendship Center's Garden Project will help our residents enjoy the outdoors together, and you can take part.
Life in Santa Barbara comes with many perks, including our fantastic weather! Spending time enjoying the sunshine and tranquility of our Montecito courtyard is a favorite activity for many of our older and dependent adults. Members spend their time in the courtyard eating, visiting, playing games or enjoying one of the many entertainers who share their talents with us. Other times, quiet and solitude are appreciated- reading, completing a crossword, enjoying a visit with a therapy dog, or simply reveling in the sunshine.
Except for a few exceptionally cold or rainy days, our patios are utilized by members year-round! We are pleased to have been able to replace our worn outdoor furniture with beautiful new teak tables and chairs in recent years, and purchase two outdoor heaters after the fire and subsequent mudslide.
To make our outdoor space as hospitable and welcoming as possible for our members, we plan to improve seating arrangements and walkways to allow our members to congregate in informal groups for socialization or to safely explore the grounds.
We plan on adding new cushions, lounge furniture, and dividers planted with succulents to better utilize the space and offer multiple options for our members to enjoy in the courtyard.
Many of you have expressed interest in helping to create something special for the Center. The Friendship Garden Project is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the quality of life for the wonderful elders and dependent adults who spend their final sunny days with us.
When you contribute to the Friendship Garden Project, your name or that of another of your choosing will be displayed in the courtyard as a lasting memory.
