Time-limited Disaster CalFresh program launched today!
Some of you may already be aware of Disaster CalFresh since we have been making preparations over the past few weeks. Our readiness activities have involved multiple staff across the agency creating, delivering or attending training, developing business processes, timesheet coding instructions, and daily reporting requirements, as well as ensuring systems and facilities readiness, just to name a few. The teamwork and collaboration has been excellent; challenging times like these truly bring out such grace and cooperation in our staff. Whether staff has been directly involved or taking on extra work to allow others to be directly involved, THANK YOU all for your efforts to launch this program – I have every confidence that DSS will do a wonderful job bringing disaster food aid to our local communities!
For those of you who may not be familiar with the disaster food aid program, I wanted to share a few details with you.
Late last week, the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) approved California Department of Social Services' (CDSS) request to operate Disaster CalFresh (D-CF) in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties due to the combined impact of multiple wildfires in December 2017 and mudslides in January 2018.
We are operational at 5 sites in Santa Barbara County and 7 sites in Ventura County. The hours and days of operation vary by site. The only Saturday site is at our local Disaster Recovery Center in Santa Barbara. The application period started today and ends February 14, 2018. You can check out our DSS website for more information.
